About this Raddle
Josh Safdie directed this movie about a narcissistic, self-destructive table tennis player (Timothée Chalamet) clawing his way to world champion while burning every relationship he has along the way. Chalamet is nominated for Best Actor, but may have talked his way out of the win through various unhinged promotional stunts. Safdie's manic energy feels like a magic trick to me, ensorcelling me to root for a protagonist who is a total shitheel. The movie is full of novelty casting for some of the bigger roles, which I have mixed feelings about, but all the supporting characters are so perfect it feels like you've taken a time machine to '50s Lower East Side.
